Bonita's habit of posting C++ code to comp.lang.c is inappropriate.

Debating the merits of C++ is equally inappropriate.

Discussing sorting algorithms is perfectly appropriate, if the
discussion also has something to do with the C language or how
to write programs in C.

If the current context loses its connection to C, it's off-topic.
So you're not following your own rules. I might as well post C++
code. ;-)

It would be so much more interesting and entertaining if you posted in D or
Swift - both of which are, like C++, C-like.

The "nice" thing is that on the Internet you find any opinion you
like to be seconded. - It makes little sense to post any arbitrary
selected link.

Skimming over that specific page you find people mentioning their
preferences for Pearl or Lisp as positive paragons. (It's beyond
me why anyone would consider these languages or C/C++ as positive
paragons.) - It makes little sense to discuss personal preferences.

Concerning Bonita's language of choice, C++, it should be reminded
that he usually compares its features by the respective explicitly
programmed code in "C". - That's a point, but it makes little sense
to repeat that language difference here.

Completely off-topic and of no importance, I'm just curious:
I would have thought, based upon my experiences with latin languages,
that Bonita would be a woman's name. Has Bonita said that Bonita is
male? I only see other people's responses to Bonita's messages, so I
would probably have missed it.

You are most probably right; both, Bonita and Montero, appear to be
of Spanish origin. And I was sloppy in addressing her correctly. 8-/
My sincere apologies to Bonita! - I somehow and wrongly thought that
it was a pseudonym; probably because I think she's a German resident,
but then there's also residents in Germany with Greek names.[*] ;-)

Thanks for pointing me to the obvious that I also obviously missed.

Janis

[*] Serves me right. Some time ago I was wrongly addressed as female
because of the association with the phonetic similar Janice and with
the famous Janis Joplin being obviously female. Now given the famous
Yanis Varoufakis things should be more obvious.

It's the internet. Anyone can be anyone. Bonita posts

I usually don't make investigations about persons posting before
answering to their posts. Though I had seen the picture before I
made my previous post. - As you say, "anyone can be anyone"; and
names and pictures can also be chosen arbitrarily (e.g. for sake
of privacy).

But I've no reason to doubt that she's female. (Unless she, the
poster, corrects me.) And the origin of the name should certainly
have been obvious to me.

That 2021? profile pic shows a seemingly young female. But Montero
trolls clc aggressively like a male - its clc behavior is extremely

This kind of inquiry is inappropriate. Anyone can of course tell
us how old they are if they choose to, but insisting that someone
discloses personal information is rude and verges on stalking,
to say nothing of its irrelevance to the topic of this newsgroup.

You post as "DFS". I don't know your age, your sex, what you
look like, or anything about you other than what you post here.
And that's fine.

(Just one suggestion. If you want to use a fake email address,
don't use a real domain that belongs to someone else. dfs.com is a
shopping site, and my guess is that you're not actually affiliated
with it. Consider something like "dfs.example.com".)

This as much off-topic as the c++-dribble of Bonita.

(And it is irrelevant)

The pic is older. I'm from 1976.

We don't need to try to look up people's details, or speculate. We
don't need to ask personal questions. We don't need prejudice or
bigotry. ("Males do this, females do that" - that's bigotry. People
are responsible for their own actions and attitudes. If you think
Bonita posts aggressively in c.l.c., that's because it is the way she
posts. It is neither because of nor despite of being female, German,
Italian, a C++ programmer, or any other characteristic that you think
fits, true or untrue.)

If people want to give personal information, that's their choice. I
think it is nice to have the basics right, such as a real name (I am
aware that "David Brown" is about as anonymous a name as you can get in
an English language context - though my email address is valid), but
that's a choice too. For practical reasons of writing, it's useful to
know what pronouns to use for someone - and if we don't know for sure,
we make a best guess. If we get it wrong, and that person is bothered
about it, we'll be corrected and try to remember for the future. (Note
that a person may choose to use different pronouns along with anonymity
on Usenet - that's up to them.)

I've made the same incorrect assumption in your case, but I think
I managed not to address you incorrectly. (I doubt that Yanis
Varoufakis is famous outside Greece, so that's not likely to be
helpful.)

Oh, I'm positive that's not true! - Myself I certainly don't know
him from Greece, since I'm not living in that country. - Not sure
where you're residing, but he's famous (or infamous) in Europe at
least since the Euro-crisis 20 years ago! - He also studied in GB
and later became university teacher in Essex and Cambridge. And
finally he also became visiting professor in the US (Austin/Texas).
Frankly, I wonder that you missed his name completely. But, okay,
he's not technician but an economist. And so he's probably better
known in Europe than in the US.

Janis
