Probably some header has a typedef similar to
typedef char *string;
(I think we've seen this before.) This is A Bad Idea. A char* is a
pointer; it may point to a string, but it is not itself a string.
Changing the typedef name to "string_pointer", for example, would be an
improvement, but not much of one.
It's probably best to drop the "string" typedef and just use "char*"
directly. You need to understand how char* pointers and strings
interact. Hiding the char* type behind a typedef is not helpful.
More generally, hiding pointer types behind typedefs is dangerous;
if you're working with pointers, you should be aware that you're
working with pointers.
