I'm curious what kind of computer you're using that makes 11 GB
unacceptably large.  You're not actually installing from floppies,
are you?

The system I'm typing this on has a 140-150 GB hard drive, which
is rather small (it's a laptop, and not a terribly modern one).
My desktop system, once I get it working again, has a 3 TB hard
drive; 1 TB is typical these days, and not inordinately expensive.
(Neither of them runs Windows, so I won't be installing MSVC,
but I've done so before.)
