Most languages that start form a common base grow in a different 
direction.  C++ started with modest aims (C with classes) and grew to 
meet the needs of its users.  Java started with modest intentions and 
grew to meet the needs of its users and shareholders in RAM manufacturers...

Several of my friends enjoy using their 60s and 70s cars.  Those that 
have survived have had the bugs shaken (quite literally round here) out 
and do all that is required of them.  Given the choice of a 60s Cooper S 
or the current pastiche, I know which I'd choose.
