It does not attempt to solve any of the issues in your posts on the topic. A lot of the software you looked at is open source (some of it also free as in freedom) originating on Linux systems. A key consideration for such software is to encourage development rather than just building. That's why make is popular and commonly used in the Linux world. Things may have changed, but when I used to use Windows a lot, software was rarely distributed as source code and even more rarely in a form that encouraged tinkering. If there is a way of doing this, that is widely used in the Windows world, I don't know what it is. -- Ben.
