If you are trying to protect your software check out ActiveLock 3.6.
If so, you will provide a single common copy to put on CD.
The user will install and get a code to eMail you.
You then generate an unlock code to eMail back to the user.
The process makes your app unique to the user's PC.
It is not 100% crack proof but is does provide good protection.
Full VB6 source is free to use with a few minor caveats.
Since it is full source you can modify it and make it unique to your
own needs.
