<div>Handwriting recognition is more important than ever given the prevalence of mobile phones, tablets, and wearable gear like smartwatches. The large symbol inventory required to support Chinese handwriting recognition on such mobile devices poses unique challenges. This article describes how we met those challenges to achieve real-time performance on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch (in Scribble mode). Our recognition system, based on deep learning, accurately handles a set of up to 30,000 characters. To achieve acceptable accuracy, we paid particular attention to data collection conditions, representativeness of writing styles, and training regimen. We found that, with proper care, even larger inventories are within reach. Our experiments show that accuracy only degrades slowly as the inventory increases, as long as we use training data of sufficient quality and in sufficient quantity.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Handwriting recognition can enhance user experience on mobile devices, particularly for Chinese input given the relative complexity of keyboard methods. Chinese handwriting recognition is uniquely challenging, due to the large size of the underlying character inventory. Unlike alphabet-based writing, which typically involves on the order of 100 symbols, the set of Hànzì characters in Chinese National Standard GB18030-2005 contains 27,533 entries, and many additional logographic characters are in use throughout Greater China.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>download chinese handwriting for iphone</div><div></div><div>Download Zip: https://t.co/11ugsgaZ99 </div><div></div><div></div><div>We adopt in this work a general CNN architecture similar to that used in previous handwriting recognition experiments on the MNIST task (see, e.g., [1], [10]). The configuration of the overall system is illustrated in Fig. 1.</div><div></div><div></div><div>In summary, building a high-accuracy handwriting recognition system which covers a large set of 30,000 Chinese characters is practical even on embedded devices. Furthermore, accuracy only degrades slowly as the inventory goes up, as long as training data of sufficient quality is available in sufficient quantity. This bodes well for the recognition of even larger character inventories in the future.</div><div></div><div></div><div>One of our tipsters, Kenneth, pointed us to a Chinese web page (Google translation) showing what appears to be an iPhone running some sort of handwriting recognition geared especially for Chinese characters. According to the post, this is how Apple will integrate Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) input into the iPhone. As you write the character, you are presented with a list of the possible characters on the right side of the input pane. </div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>According to MacRumors, Apple recently started hiring "Handwriting Recognition Engineers," could this mean the iPhone is coming to China soon? Only time will tell, but this should definitely give people something to hope for. </div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>Thanks, Kenneth.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>今日は!</div><div></div><div>Does anyone know of an iOS keyboard that has handwriting recognition for Japanese characters?</div><div></div><div>I want to use it to write kanji and kana on kamesame, instead of swapping Google Translate and browser and copy/pasting constantly.</div><div></div><div></div><div>This says that OS X supports Wubi, in case that's an option. Wenlin has handwriting recognition, but it's not very friendly compared with Pleco (speaking of which, you could just have Pleco recognize the character and you could then copy/paste/send that to your Mac somehow).</div><div></div><div></div><div>Maybe this has to do with the fact that Windows handwriting recognition with mouse is so bad! It works for the 100 most common characters but for others sometimes you can try 20 times and it won't find what you wrote. Even when taking time to do each stroke.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>AppleInsider reader Kenneth notes that build 5A258f of the impending software update adds several new Chinese input methods under the international keyboard settings, including handwriting recognition.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Apple had previously posted a job listing for a handwriting recognition engineer, and AppleInsider reported last year that the company's upcoming Newton/Web tablet would arrive with support for the input technology.</div><div></div><div></div><div>A recent patent filing has also suggested that Apple is working on a next-generation multi-touch 'surface' that would combine typing, pointing, scrolling, and handwriting capabilities into a single ergonomic design aimed at replacing traditional input devices such as the keyboard, mouse, and drawing tablet.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Dubbed "HWPen," the third-party handwriting recognition application was developed by Hanwang.com.cn to allow Chinese character input on the iPhone, but the program works equally well with English input. Apple has reportedly stripped English character input from the tool, sieving for only Chinese character recognition for iPhone OS 2.0.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Oddly, HWPen is still available as a third-party application for jailbroken iPhones. In order to install the software, follow our guide for enabling third-party apps on the iPhone, then use Installer.app to add the source: iphonecake.com/src/all</div><div></div><div> df19127ead</div>
