3. In the service code that you write to implement your skill, implement each of these specified built-in intents as desired. Include the Display.RenderTemplate directive in your skill responses to display content on screen as appropriate, just as you would include other directives, as shown in the examples below.

Yes, I want to connect my echo dots so when someone rings my doorbell, it creates an alert on the echo dots (as additional chimes). I just keep getting this error when trying to add echo dots from the ring device set up > Alexa connected devices.

You can use them for games, but from a Home Automation standpoint, you can use them to trigger an echo routine in the Alexa app. And from there you can get to a virtual switch in a smartthing SmartThings system.

So yes, the echo show second generation can be used as a zigbee hub: but that is not a hub that will be recognized by the SmartThings app, and none of the devices connected directly to that hub will show up in the SmartThings app.

Yes installed it fresh last night and tried - trying all i can think of at the mo

Got the rtsp stream and wireshark says its hitting the echo but the echo and the yi app dont seem to be communicating.

Okay I have reset my echo show and I logged in my amazon account. But when I check my device on the companion app it appears offline (alexa app is up-to-date) also in my browser on the computer I get the same things.

Also, any settings or skills I make in my Echo show are reflected in my account and are visible through both the browser and companion app. However any skill or setting I try to make from the app/browser are NOT showing on my echo show.

Another thing, when I enable skills that require account linking, Alexa asks that I continue the process through my alexa app. When i go and enter my credentials to use the skill, the app said that it's linked now. However when I try to invoke the skill on echo show, Alexa says the app is not linked.

It would be useless to me without the ability to side load apps, but thankfully that is not the case. Sorry, but this story is completely false and should be corrected or taken down and replaced with proper side loading instructions by someone who knows what they are talking about.

When Amazon added Fire TV capabilities to the Echo Show 15, it went out of its way to block the ability to install apps from unknown sources, a.k.a. sideloading apps, through the traditional Fire TV methods. With the ability to make ADB connections to the Echo Show 15 and the ability to grant permission for apps from unknown sources both missing from the device, it seemed like there was no way to sideload apps. However, it appears as though Amazon left a loophole in place that can be used to sideload apps in a roundabout way.

For further convenience, users can access any channel directly from the Echo Show home screen after their first log-in. All they need to do is say, "Alexa, watch ESPN on SLING TV" or "Alexa, tune to CNN on SLING'' to begin watching or control their content by asking, "Alexa, pause," or "Alexa, resume." Beyond live streaming TV, SLING users can access up to 150,000 on-demand movies, TV shows and more.

When you want to communicate with your Echo show, just say "Alexa," followed by a command. But you can change this "wake word" to Echo, Amazon, or Computer, if you prefer. Just say, "Alexa, go to settings," or swipe down from the top of the Echo Show screen and select Settings. Then, tap Device Options > Wake Word > and select the wake word you want to use instead. Or you can do this in the Alexa app.

Alexa can identify people by voice profiles, so that different users can get relevant information for them within a household. You can find out all about setting up Alexa Voice Profiles here. On the Echo Show 15 you can also use Visual ID, so the Show 15 can recognise you can show you information that's relevant to you. You'll be guided through setting it up when you setup your Echo Show 15.

The Echo Show is ideal for managing your smart home. If you don't want to use voice, swipe down from the top and tap Smart Home. This will open your smart home dashboard, showing recent devices, groups and rooms. Here you can tap to toggle on or off, or tap through to make other changes.

You can watch films or TV shows on Echo Show - and not only from Amazon Prime Video (included with your paid Prime membership), as well as programming from your active Amazon Channels subscriptions (like Showtime, HBO, and Starz), but also Netflix.

The reason YouTube has been so important to these "smart display" devices is that they're often marketed as small kitchen appliances. Theoretically, a user should be able to ask the smart speaker to "show me pie recipes," and the device would then display a video walking the user through the process of baking a pie.

The most obvious example of how Amazon is ramping up the usefulness of voice commands is the home screen for the Show. In addition to showing you the local time and weather, the screen alternates with a scroll of trending topics, news stories and suggestions for commands you can ask Alexa to perform. It looks like they also rolled out short videos to show you how to set up basic functions like a grocery list.

I don't point these out to be overly critical, it's more to show there are areas where it can stand improvement and I have no doubt it will be improved. I'd like it if I was able to go into the calendar event I created and edit it so it reads correctly. It seems like this would be a good feature for use within the Alexa app. I can update the event name in my actual calendar but I have both an Outlook and a Gmail calendar synced so I'd like to be able to edit the event name right then and there rather than look through both calendars and then update.

If there's one weak spot for the Echo it's that it is limited to one location. We currently have the Show in the kitchen and the Dot in the office. The App is great for finding and enabling new skills. It also shows a timeline of what you have asked Alexa to do which I personally don't find all that helpful. I'd expect the Alexa app to become your Echo away from home since everyone has their phone on them nearly every waking moment of the day. I find syncing bluetooth in the car to be a bit clunky so there's the opportunity to streamline this so you can listen to music and podcasts without having to select bluetooth stereo, open up an app and then play the podcast or playlist.

It turns out if you have a car with bluetooth and wifi you can actually use an Echo in your car. This is a true edge case given how few cars currently have wifi and it isn't perfect, but this article shows the future of an Alexa-enabled car isn't too far from becoming a reality. The only potential downside is it will probably create a new version of fighting over the channel on the radio as everyone on the family trip asks Alexa to play their preferred audio in the car.
