You said you downloaded from onedrive but there's also an option on onenote online, so, for now, I'll treat it as if you had only tried onedrive but not the other (Microsoft is confusing, am I right?).

Exporting and importing notebooks through OneNote for the web is only available for notebooks stored on personal OneDrive accounts, not for notebooks stored on OneDrive for Business or SharePoint. For some reasons I have difficulty syncing my notebooks on my PC, and I cannot open them through office.com either. Yet I still have access to my OneDrive online. Is there a way to find and download the notebooks from the OneDrive storage?


I noticed my OneNote has been glitching more often so I tried to move (and eventually separate) a large notebook from my current notebooks. In the process I noticed my notebooks are only being saved as html links in my One Drive folder in my laptop folder (besides always being synced online as part of OneDrive). These html links directly send me to my synced notebooks on OneDrive online.


I just got a new laptop and I use dropbox (this is obligatory, as I have a subscription that I pay for). With my last pc I had onenote-notes in a dropbox folder, so that they were safe in the cloud. Path like c://user/name/dropbox/onenote/name_notebook. And I have used onenote for ages and have A LOT of data in about 10 notebooks. I use it all the time, I need it on my new laptop!!!


If I can't transfer/copy the onenote notebooks to onedrive please advise how I transfer them onto the new laptop in/with dropbox - I don't get the structure. I know that I can change the path and that I can export but the export. But when I export one notebook into onepkg-file and I click on it on the new pc nothing happens (can't be read, search for app, nothing).






Once the notebook has moved and synced to the new location, if you look in OneDrive consumer you should see two notebooks as shown above. The original temporary one (which you can now delete) and the second one you relocated from the original location (here SharePoint Bootcamp).


We'll show you how and where OneNote automatically saves notebooks, how you can save notebooks locally, and how you can restore notebooks from a backup. The only way to permanently stop OneNote from syncing to OneDrive, is to store all your notebooks locally and log out of your Microsoft account. Select your account username in OneNote's title bar and click Sign out.


OneNote can automatically back up your notebooks in intervals between one minute and six weeks. We recommend setting the automatic backup to at least once a day. To change this setting, go to File > Options > Save & Backup and choose your preferred interval from the dropdown menu. Confirm your changes by clicking OK.


From there, you can copy the section to one of your regular notebooks. Right-click the section, select Move or Copy, pick an open notebook from the list, and click either Move or Copy to complete the action.


Retrieving lost or deleted OneNote notebooks from OneNote Recycle Bin is a common method. Hi Vivek! The credentials are not stored in the drawing, the prompt for credentials is from OneDrive itself, and it is similar to using the 'Keep me signed in' button on the web. The preferred way of using OneNote is using cloud-connected notebooks as that helps retain your data wherever you go, hence the choice for onedrive cloud storage. Once you are signed in, the OneNote Online at the top right (you may have to scroll) will show the signed in user. If you need to use this with another user, you will need to sign out from there and sign in as the other user. Hope that clarifies things. Thanks for the review!
