Ok this gives me a lot to think about, especially with setting up SNAT. This particular VPN isn't site to site its for client to server, and I originally had it set up as L2TP and tried to connec with windows 7 build in L2TP vpn client but I encountered the same issue unfortunately. I think you've both nailed the issue, its the subnet. Interestingly enough when I set the router up I did flash it with the 3.30 firmware so I might need to downgrade that as well. So client WO can't work as server request.

Temporary on server site update config(I no need strong security, only tunnel)

But now can't find how to forward traffic from client to tunnel (not all, part of network on server site)


StrongSwan automatically installs the routes and policies according to its configuration.

Do the relevant left-/rightsubnet definitions include the network on server site in question?

Do the machines in this network have a route back to the VPN gateway?

Does your client router have NAT enabled on its WAN interface?

Please show your client and server configs, for IPsec and firewall.


We are going through a network transition and have several VPN software clients that used to connect to a Cisco PIX firewall. We are replacing these with multiple ZyXEL ZyWALL?s which will now handle the IPSEC VPN termination for gateway-to-gateway VPN?s, however some Cisco software clients are still in operation.


Is it possible to configure the Cisco VPN client to connect with the ZyWALL? I personally am not familiar with the Cisco client although I have dealt with other IPSEC VPN clients. The ZyWALL obviously has as part of its simple stage 1 IKE setup: -


However, the Cisco bods at the other end seem to be having difficulties connecting although we can connect with a standard IPSEC client such as Greenbow or the Safenet client, this is why I wanted some example screen shots of the configuration pages.


The guys that are trying to connect using the Cisco client are using version 4.0.2 (A) as can be seen by the attachemnt. This still means nothing to me and I can't help them configure the client although they are saying thet there are minimal configureation options.


This guide provides information that can be used to configure a Zywall device to support IPsec VPN client connectivity. The Shrew Soft VPN Client has been tested with Zywall products to ensure interoperability.


The configuration example described below will allow an IPsec VPN client to communicate with a single remote private network. No automatic configuration is possible at this time due to limitations in the Zywall firmware.


The client configuration in this example is less than ideal due to limitations of the Zywall. Open the Access Manager application and create a new site configuration. Configure the settings listed below in the following tabs.


The Remote Host section must be configured. This Host Name or IP Address is defined as 10.1.2.23 to match the Zywall WAN interface address. The Auto Configuration option is set to disabled as Zywall does not support automatic client configuration.


Each remote access client must be assigned a unique Virtual Adapter IP address. Please see the known issues section of this document for more details. In this example we define an address of 10.2.23.2 with a netmask as 255.255.255.0 for a single client. Each subsequent client would be assigned the next address in the network. For example, the next is assigned 10.2.23.3, the next 10.2.23.4, etc ...
