I used the Vector Asset to create an Icon that I want for my app. I set it in the manifest file and it works. However it has a transparent background. I would like to fill that transparent background with a solid color.

Android Studio uses different vector assets for the foreground (the actual icon) and the background. The defaults are ic_launcher_background.xml and ic_launcher_foreground.xml which you can find in the mipmap folder under /res. They are both used within ic_launcher.xml. So just replace those two XML files with your own code.

You can use Potlatch 2's vector background layers to speed remapping, by pulling through data (from a compatible source) as one of the tools in your mapping. On this page we'll explain how to do it with an example in the South-West of England.

The data is now in the background. Your task is now to incorporate it into the map as you see fit. Using Potlatch 2's 'Options' window, make sure that 'Show licence status' is ticked. This will show any data that will be lost at licence change with a deep red highlight. (Light orange is for mappers who haven't decided yet.)

Note, if I create a layer style gradient it spans the entire canvas which I do not want, further in order to edit it I need to adjust the stop points in the gradient editor which is imprecise as it's based on percentages. I want a vector gradient that only spans half the canvas and which I can resize or snap to a guideline without pixelating/banding the way a raster gradient would when streched.

Now, you have a perfect vector image for your website background which appears crisp and sharp on any screen resolutions - from 320px to 4K screens. Lightweight, save bandwidth and most important of all, less work done!

SVG is an XML-based language for describing vector images. It's basically markup, like HTML, except that you've got many different elements for defining the shapes you want to appear in your image, and the effects you want to apply to those shapes. SVG is for marking up graphics, not content. SVG defines elements for creating basic shapes, like and , as well as elements for creating more complex shapes, like and . More advanced SVG features include (transform colors using a transformation matrix), (animate parts of your vector graphic), and (apply a mask over the top of your image).

From the example above, you may get the impression that SVG is easy to hand code. Yes, you can hand code simple SVG in a text editor, but for a complex image this quickly starts to get very difficult. For creating SVG images, most people use a vector graphics editor like Inkscape or Illustrator. These packages allow you to create a variety of illustrations using various graphics tools, and create approximations of photos (for example Inkscape's Trace Bitmap feature.)

This article has provided you with a quick tour of what vector graphics and SVG are, why they are useful to know about, and how to include SVG inside your webpages. It was never intended to be a full guide to learning SVG, just a pointer so you know what SVG is if you meet it in your travels around the Web. So don't worry if you don't feel like you are an SVG expert yet. We've included some links below that might help you if you wish to go and find out more about how it works.

I'm using Geoserver (2.1) to load raster data with the Imagemosaic plugin and then using Geowebcache to cut this data into tiles across the full coverage of the British National Grid. However the data does not extend to all areas of this extent and in these areas I get black background where there is no data.

To resolve this I loaded a vector background which serves as a blue sea background for areas where the raster data does not extend to. However where the vector and raster areas meet I am still seeing sections of black no data background (even though the vector data covers all areas where the raster data does not and is behind it in the layer group).

Does anyone know of any other ways to change this background colour without effecting the raster data itself or why these black areas might still be appearing even though there is vector data there that should be displayed?

Looking for the perfect background that will make your project complete? Well, you have just arrived at the right place. We have put together a collection of free cartoon background vectors for all kinds of projects you may think of.

I want to show you guys one way to use one of these for a GUI. For this example, I downloaded a neat cogs and gears pattern. I brought it into Illustrator and changed the colors to be much more neutral and quiet. I can then save out the pattern as a PNG. Then to make it tile as the background in Lectora, just go to the Design Ribbon, to the Title Background section, select the image drop down and import your PNG.

A vector mask is a resolution independent path that clips out the contents of the layer. Vector masks are usually more accurate than those created with pixel-based tools. You create vector masks with the pen or shapes tools. For more information on working with the pen or shapes tools, see Drawing.

We have developed a new type of bacteriophage lambda vector which provides a strong biological selection against non-recombinants that is independent of the sequences immediately surrounding the cloning site. This system, which we call 'selective substitution', is ideally suited for cDNA expression vectors where it is necessary to flank the cDNA insert with sequence elements (promoters etc.) required to produce a biologically active mRNA in vivo. Selective substitution is a general method, which may be applied to many types of vectors. In this report, we have specifically applied selective substitution to the construction of a new mammalian retrovirus expression vector. The level of background obtained with this vector (that is, the number of plaques obtained when the vector is ligated in the absence of insert DNA) is 0.02% when compared to ligation with restriction fragments and 0.1% to 0.4% when compared to ligation with newly synthesized cDNA. These features have allowed us to easily and efficiently generate several large cDNA libraries using total and size selected cDNA.

A vector background is a type of image used as a website's background or as a computer's desktop wallpaper. Rather than the dots or pixels that make up raster images, vector images consist of lines and geometrical shapes, and mathematical equations are used to create the image. Each shape in the image is considered an object that can be easily altered to have a different color or size. To create or alter a vector background, one must use one of the special image editing applications that are available for multiple platforms. Vector backgrounds have both advantages and disadvantages over raster images and are not the best format for all types of images.

Compared to a vector background image that uses mathematical formulas along with lines, curves and shapes, a raster image uses square pixels that become less clear when the image is enlarged in any way. Objects in vector images have two elements that determine how the image appears. The length of each line is the magnitude, and the direction in which the line is positioned determines the orientation.

Vector background images have an advantage over raster graphics in that they can be enlarged without losing image quality. Although raster graphics become distorted and greatly lose quality when enlarged, vector images maintain their look and are much more flexible with resolution. Another advantage is that vector backgrounds have a smaller file size than many other image formats. This makes them well suited for website backgrounds, because they load better for users with slower Internet connections.
