Won't work. On some systems it finishes and does the same behaviour next 
time. On at least one other system it hangs in an endless loop. But that 
is not the problem I wanted to analyze here.

Yes I will do that to address one part of the problem.


To summarize: I believe so far that the "threat" with this (installer?) 
problem is minor, because it can only invoke executables linked to 
software that has been installed already anyways.

But that the reference manager (or installer) would do that even when it 
does not *need* to search for an object, is beyond me...
