Classic UUCP relied a lot on other's servers as hops between sender and recipient. There is a config option for unknown systems, but I cannot guess how to use it. In contrast to anonymous UUCP one would need to know whom to reply to and that then again would need to set up that connection. That still looks like config hell in a P2P case to me. Plain SMTP over some encrypted mesh would be far easier.
