Thats a joke, that you don't know this Olaf. The result of the command
"test" depends on the terminal that you use. So use it with the terminal
that you will use for your output.

No, that was not a joke... I've clearly can't remember to have used it 
in the past 30? years of using gnuplot...... perhaps once 20 years ago 
with test postscript..., so I forgot it, ähm jpeg-compression of the 
storage-room between the ears;-)
