Do a test plot (or use the "stats" command in gnuplot >4.6) to find out your actual data range (it's in the GPVAL_ variables after each plot) and then limit it accordingly. Or try to get the information from somewhere else. The file name perhaps? Or use the shell() command to extract it from your data file with the help of grep.
