You may find it easier to install gnuplot using the package manager of 
your distribution. That takes care of the dependencies automatically. 
Start it and search for gnuplot, select and start installation. It will 
probably ask you whether you want this or that package installed too, 
answer "yes". The package manager also takes care of upgrades 
automatically.
