My machine is a pear linux 6 (basically an ubuntu >12.04 precise with other windows manager). You may find it easier to install gnuplot using the package manager of your distribution. That takes care of the dependencies automatically. Start it and search for gnuplot, select and start installation. It will probably ask you whether you want this or that package installed too, answer "yes". The package manager also takes care of upgrades automatically. -- Car (noun): erratically moving obstacle on the road
