key box height

Hello,
I tried to get a correct key box height and width then using different
fonts.
I used
  plot "data.dat" title "{/Helvetica=48 mykeyentry}" with lines
and
  set key font "Helvetica,14"
but the height is never affected. Of course I can try different set
key width and set key height but my graphs are generated automatically
and to correct each one is annoying.
Is there any way to solve this problem in a pretty way without using
set key height, set key width or set key spacing?
