That's really strange --- a fresh checkout I just did here (Windows) 
does include prepare, just like it should.  I can only assume that 
either the pserver at SF is, somehow, exhibiting a hickup about this 
particular file,

Or maybe you're looking for ./prepare in the wrong directory.  You are 
aware that it'll actually be

	gnuplot/prepare

from the directory you ran those above commands in, aren't you?
