Dear Peter,

thank you very much for your answer.
I simply updated my macports and tried to re-install gnuplot4.5 again
after the gnuplot help page.
It seems to work. I can run gnuplot4.5 now. During ./configure there
was one warning, I don't understand:


checking for CAIROPANGO... configure: WARNING:
The pkg-config script could not be found or is too old.  Make sure it
is in your PATH or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable to the full
path to pkg-config.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables CAIROPANGO_CFLAGS
and CAIROPANGO_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

To get pkg-config, see <http://www.freedesktop.org/software/
pkgconfig>.
configure: WARNING: The wxWidgets terminal will not be compiled.
checking for PANGO_1_10_2... no

But I ignored this and continued.
At the moment gnuplot4.5 seems okay.

To answer you question:
I have not installed gnuplot4.4.3 on my own. I did this via Macports.
I think there is now libpng 1.4.7 installed via Macports.

I tried you commands and got
 /opt/local/lib/libpng14.14.dylib (compatibility version 22.0.0,
current version 22.0.0)
Checking for pango, did return nothing! Is this bad?

Macports allows to install Linux-Programs on Mac, I think. But I am
not an expert.
