Hi,
I am a student who is taking a course on Computer Graphics.
The main book we refer to is "Computer Graphics in C" by Foley, Van Dam
et al.

I need to present a 20 minute talk on some new development in
Computer Graphics. Our course syllabus isn't very up to date, hence
'new' would probably mean something in the last 15-20 years, I guess.
I will do my own research once I find a suitable topic. But I am looking
for suggestions on what topic I can possibly talk about. If anyone has
some ideas on a topic, it would be very helpful.

There are recorded conferences from GTC 2010:

Maybe good to see what the state of the art is.

15-20 years is very very far from "new developments". For example the
z-buffer was invented about 35 years ago, and this was the early
beginings of computer graphics. About 15 years ago was the introduction
of photon mapping, which is now used a lot, and which was a big step.
Another big step is the introduction of programmable GPUs, about 10
years ago.

If you want really "new development" in computer graphics (although it
may be smaller steps), you should definitely look at Siggraph, Siggraph
Asia and Eurographics conference proceedings, in the last 3-5 years. A
good webpage used by researchers, which lists all accepted papers is
Kesen Huang website:
http://kesen.realtimerendering.com/

It will also depend what you call "Computer graphics" : does it include
texture synthesis? computational geometry? computational photography ?
Image processing ? virtual environments with sounds? non-photorealistic
rendering? ....or just pure realistic rendering, not necessarily realtime?

Cheers
