Allah is a spammer? Can't find much to praise there. The rational
judgment is you are defiling your own bible.

In the context of this group, I take that the meaning of the word "Allah"
is "Larry Ellison". There is even a book with subtitle "what's the
difference between God and Larry Ellison" which was, allegedly, divinely
inspired. Praised be Larry Ellison!

Strange, my experience is frequently the opposite to yours:
The database has clearly evolved rather than being designed, but lots of
people claim to be the designer.

I too ascribe many databases to the evolution and survival of the
loudest, rather than being results of the intelligent design.

I just had this experience. A dotnet fellow is working on some web
stuff which has to talk to the erp. He ran into an error of a missing
table column, and asked the boss about it, who couldn't find the table
in the db. Of course, the db blind 4GL has at times evolved more
quickly than the databases it accesses, then the db's catch up in
various ways, leading to similar solutions to similar problems, or
wildly different solutions to similar problems, similarly named. In
this case, we have virtual table app-specific metadata in 10g. So you
get bit in the nether regions, but is it a copperhead or a midland
water snake or a diamondback?

As often happens when reading something written by Jonathan I have no
clear idea if this is intended to be funny, serious, sarcastic, or
just flip.

Maybe I go off course with wondering what is intended by "The database
has clearly evolved" ...

I don't see much "designing" things ... just hurry up and code.

I wasn't sure either if Jonathan had misread or was being sarcastic,
but the OP clearly has no idea who the audience is here, and that
makes all the replies pretty entertaining. If I had posted my first
thoughts, about one of my other google identities and the mother of
all ishmaelites, there would be rioting in numerous countries. But
that's a bit more flamage than I'm up for.

Just to make myself clear:

1.- I was joking ;-)
2.- The point was that I've seen many databases with no proper design
at all, just a bunch of modifications, one on top of another, shoddy
work, etc...
3.- I am a Darwinist ;-)

Cheers.

Carlos.
