That' just a matter of definition. Some people can make a "profession" out of a pencil. Does it make anything a non-professional tool when people do use it for private purposes? > FileMaker Pro *IS* a professional level database system and used by many > businesses, FMP does not even provide professional support, bug tracking mechanisms or bug fixes - but again, that's my definition of professionality, from the industry experience, where I do expect a fixed release within 24 hours after a major bug report. Again, your definition will be different - and FMP does not ask "professional" prices either. You can make a living with FMP - or a pencil. What's your definition of a "professional" tool - other than that a company declares a tool as professional, such as FileMaker Professional does? Example: I LOVE the replace operation - but it's a nightmare concerning data security. Now you might either define: professionals do not make mistake, or they are to blame on their own. Or: professionals will build data security mechanisms that will prevent the loss of important data. No question, this can be done by an extra layer over the usual interface. My definition: Each data has a version history and can be reverted to a former state. It's a nightmare to do this on FMP. A "professional" tool would have something like that on board. Many "professional" tools come with these capabilities. But many of them are for "professional" users only: They lack the ease of use and have a long and steep learning curve. I feel that's a poor, but still valid definition of "professional": You need a pro to use it. Fortunately, FMP lacks that level of professionality. - Martin
