Thanks for sharing this link. It told me some interesting news about the
history before.

My own enthusiasm had started with Filemaker 2.1. I then used .fp3 for a
very long time, until it was not feasible on my ancient MacOS versions.
Up to MacOS 10 and .fp7.

I then had to migrate to .fmp12, still a 2023 release.

But I feel more and more estranged. I don't agree with its trend to
become a web application - since it's just not really efficient for
that. It lacks all the modularity which can be accomplished via a
commandline interface - or did I miss any new developments that you
could do relationship-building from the CLI?

The GUI is great - but it's also cumbersone.

I mostly use FMP for actual data handling - and this would require what
I always nag about

* better spreadsheet like operation: I use the table view many times,
  since it is so efficient and flexible
* multi cell copy/paste
* real regex operation
* while going more for spreadsheet, I would expext the power of charts,
  as it is common in LibreOffice Calc or Excel.

FMP can do much, but it's very little what they can do well. It does not
stand out for operations where you know SQL, XML etc.
