We can understand and build similar computer hardware, programmable chips are also built in grids and you fuse the intersections. A computer system with human level intelligence can and will be built in the next decade or two with the help of advances in this brain scanning. In ~three decades we could download a (dead) brain to a computer. In ~four decades perhaps downloading your consciousness to a decanted clone. Thats about the time I should be kicking the bucket, maybe I will live forever. ;)
