That is assuming you trust mainstream nutritional guidelines for both humans and animals. I certainly don't. It seems we can not always trust what it says on the tin. My cats get raw meat, usually with kelp powder mixed in. Usually kangaroo (their favourite). Also, fish once a week. For a snack, they get grain-free dry food. Nil health problems. Basically, any commerically made pet food is not healthy.

All cats really need is red meat, maybe with some liver/kidneys sometimes. Poultry and eggs are also good. Shellfish also if you can find a cheap source. This covers all their dietary requirements and doing this you avoid all the crap added to commercially made cats food that *does* over time cause health issues for cats. No problem here, as my place is chockers full of roo, wallaby and rabbits each night. Coles and Woolworths sell minced roo/mystery animals for around $6/KG. Brand name escapes me right now. It's not too bad, aside from them apparently not bothering to drain the blood at all.

I remember goat disappeared from the range years ago, but roo and horse was common.

This is the one I had in mind http://www.vippetfoods.com.au/product/gourmet-fresh-mince-for-cats-800g-new/ , in Tassie at least, you'll find this in both Coles and Woolworths. Way better than the tinned or dry shit they try to pass off as food.

All that study shows is that most cat food doesn't actually comply with the GUIDELINES. It remains to be seen if the guidelines have any real basis. There certainly havent been produced using long term large trials for a lifetime with cats to see just what diets do produce the best result with cats. Cant see anyone spending the immense amount of money required to do that, or even that getting past the ethics committee either. > and actually harm your moggy! > http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-03-21/some-supermarket-cat-food-brands-may-cause-illness/7265110 > http://tinyurl.com/ybqprlfa Yeah, someone is desperately attempting to bullshit their way out of their predicament.
