#61590 — Win 10: 'Do you want to copy'...

SubjectWin 10: 'Do you want to copy'...
Message-ID<a6mnuc9tjoc04hlnfnfs37cdcjur56gis5@4ax.com>
G'day All,

CBF searching for a registry fix for this issue at the moment (it's
early here and I'm still on my first coffee):

https://s1.postimg.org/4te2uda0z3/win10.jpg

Does anyone know of a quick fix for this in the registry, or possibly
know of a decent new proggie that deals with this sort of nonsense?

How bloody stupid/arrogant of MS to even consider doing this. How in
HELL do they know what any given device can and cannot support??

I regularly do backups from my phone to my notebook. It's a slow
enough process as it is without adding this pointless stupidity to it
as well.

Incidentally, the file in the screen shot was MADE by the same device
I was copying it back to... <rolls eyes>.

Tnx.

Bloody hell. I'm thankful I didn't have to suffer that one yesterday
when I was stupid enough to find myself messing with Windows 10. They
don't even give you a CD to throw out the window!

For your job I'd be inclined to ditch the standard Explorer copier
altogether and either go with a 3rd party program or the command
line (xcopy or robocopy).

On XP I installed FastCopy, mainly to copy single large files, and it
really is much faster. I even set up a keyboard shortcut to bring it
up, but now that I use XP so rarely, I can never remember what it is.

Yeah, same here on this notebook! :)

Trust me, I tried to install Win7 on this thing and it's not possible.
You get 3/4 way through the install and it 'loses' the path for the
USB stick or USB DVD drive. I tried every possible solution after many
hours research and no luck. I don't mind Win 7 so much but 10 is
bloody annying in so many ways...

Good idea Kev, thanks.

I assume you're doing a fresh install onto a blank drive. what if you
installed XP (and nothing else) then did an upgrade, if necessary from a
virtual drive?

There's no XP drivers for this notebook, unfortunately.

A thought, make a partition just big enuf to hold W7 install. Boot from USB
and load 7 from HD.

I've installed it and will try it later today, thanks. I like the look

Thanks, I'll take a look at it. But see Keith's link below...
according to the comments on there, it can't be fixed via the registry

Thank Keith. LOL, the comments on there says it all :)
What a bloody stupid idea it was to implement this 'feature'.

This issue nicely illustrates my main gripe with many modern operating
systems and software these days - in a bid to make it easier and
simpler to use, they actually make it harder to use and more
inconvenient for many users.

so long since I used VLC, but IIRC it's faster, easier to use, better
interface, and plays all kinds of video

Yeah, very decent. Does play some stuff VLC wont.

Main lack is more than one step sized when playing, handy when skipping ads
etc.
