#60595 — Great Video downloader

Fromfelix <felix@real_felix.invalid>

SubjectGreat Video downloader
Message-ID<ev70coFsla4U1@mid.individual.net>
found this great video downloader extension for Chrome called 'Video
Downloader Pro'. as it says.."Download any video and music from any
website! Fast, easy, free!". As most ppl here would probably know many
downloaders don't work on the tv station catch up sites, but I used it
last night for a ep on tenplay and it downloaded it in seconds and I was
able to watch without adds and FF and RW. it's great! check it out

Hopefully not this:
http://botcrawl.com/remove-video-downloader-pro/
http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-ads-by-video-downloader-pro.html
etc.

Ah the slogan is the same, looks like it is...

As soon as I saw the subject and author, I figured it would be some
form of dodgy malware https://tinyurl.com/y7j25p4y Having 'Pro' in the
name is a bit of a red flag in of itself for freeware.

dammit! I thought I was on a good thing. however, it's only a PUP, so I
will keep an eye out for any sus behaviour. and I have good malware
detection, so I will see if it gets flags. or else I can delete it and
reinstall only if or when I need to get something I can't get any other
way, then delete it again.

if it is as bad as those anti malware sites try to make out, why is
Chrome ie. Google, not warning about it?

maybe those sites were just using it as an excuse to spruik their
anti-malware sofware. I think it's fine

It's adware. Some people might choose to put up with the ads and
security issues. As it allows itself to be removed by the usual
methods, many anti-virus programs probably don't consider it their
territory.

Indeed, and that fact alone suggests it is potentially dodgy.

If you read the negative reviews/comment via a search engine, the
problem with this app is clearly explained. What Defender et al says
about it is irrelevant.

SpyHunter the 2nd check is very hostile towards adware and it says
it's clean?

Begriming to think your search is a different product?
my browser "Extension" is called
"Video Downloader Pro I use it on Opera browser

I concluded that felix's extension was the same as the adware by
the fact that the slogan he mentions is in one of the screenshots
shown on the botcrawl.com site.

I think it just hasn't made its way onto the blacklists for
your software - after all, it can be removed like any other
browser extension anyway.

More likely it once did have a problem with the installer
installing some extra shit and that has been fixed now.

The "news" link, which you seem determined not to read, notes:

"Video Downloader Pro ads can usually?be identified by text
on them that say "Ads By Video Downloader Pro" on the bottom
 corner."

If it were other software that was installed at the same time
(rather tricky when it can download and install using the web
browser's own extension management system), removing just the
Video Downloader Pro extension wouldn't stop the ads. Which,
according to the links, it does.

But no one here has seen any of those, so clearly it doesn’t do that
anymore and that’s all that matters if you are considering using it now.

That might have been how it once was, but clearly isnt how it is now.

If the people here have only just installed it, we don't know if it
might start the ads later. In any case the fact that it once had ads
would be enough to deter people like me from ever letting it near
their PC.

There are tons of video downloaders out there, adware, trialware,
and even honest freebies. This probably isn't the only one that
knows about Tenplay.

This is a browser extension not a "installer" product

Arguing with a woman is like reading the Software License Agreement.
In the end, you ignore everthing and click "I agree"
