well I spoke too soon. :( watching a movie on Stan tonight and the tv
started with the cycling connected/disconnected messages. (sigh). I
think I'll just leave it on the wifi connection and forget about the
ethernet connection. doesn't seem to fare any worse on wifi anyway,
probably because the Edimax is connected via ethernet, and is located
only a few metres from the tv.

They don’t have a fucking clue, typical for TPG.

what if i give the router a static IP address and then use that for the TV?

That isnt how IPs work. Each device has its own IP.

I bet if you use the MR modem on TPG by setting the connection
mode correctly and using the TPG username and password it will
work fine with the TV. You can see what connection mode TPG
uses by seeing what that is set to in the modem TPG supplys.

Further and redundant proof that you are simply too fucking stupid to
help Fetid.

80' is well within the allowable distance for cat3/4/5 ethernet, but
the really stunning thing is your inability to estimate the distance.

you are quite simply too stupid to actually provide the facts necessary
for anyone to help you.

don't concern yourself. others are providing worthwhile assistance,
unlike yourself. but if you're as clever as you think you are, read the
thread and diagnose the problem. bet you can't. you're not even smart
enough to distinguish between 'distance' and 'cable length'

Oh trust me fetid, I am totally unconcerned for you - although your
travails provide me with another opportunity to remind you that you are
a stupid, lying, snivelling, simpering little coward.

Don't need to make the distinction you cretin. Whilst I have my doubts
that even you would try to use a 30' cable to bridge a 80' gap, it is
you after all and you just might......

The only other possibilities are that you used a 80' cable to bridge a
30' distance, in which event you are merely stupid. although having
said that, ethernet will work happily over far greater cable lengths.

OR. you told the world it was a 30' distance when in fact it was an 80'
distance - in which event it is, as i have already pointed out, further
and redundant evidence of your boundless stupidity.

Now which part of the above are you stupid enough to take issue with
fetid?

Here's a big, big tip Fetid - if your cable does not, at least
electrically, go "point to point" then there is your problem bucko.

The really scary thing is that I actually believe you are stupid enough
to not connect a cable and then wonder why it doesn't work.

Ah, the stupid, lying, snivelling, simpering little coward thinks *I*
