Any country requiring they keep logs they shut down in that country
The FBI found and proved they don't have logs

confirmed his understanding of our company’s policy and position and then
pursued alternative leads.”

I'm sure they don't have logs unless they are actually a CIA etc honeypot.

Perfectly legal. You wouldn’t be able to buy what you need in BigW etc if it
wasn’t.

And of no interest to the CIA anyway.

Yeah... right. "Lavender oil" ;).

I've had a few stills, but I've mainly used a Turbo 500 reflux still
for the past 4 years or so.

Nothing illegal about my distilling, I do
that to get the fluoride out of the tap water.

Distilation of alcohol comes under federal law, and it's quite legal
to distil alcohol providing your pot still is no larger than 5 liters.
I'm not sure about the legal size of reflux stills. Most of the brew
shops sell them. Strictly speaking, pot stills larger than 5l are
illegal, but I've had a 20l for more than 20 years. I bought it at a
brew shop, and i've seen plenty for sale.

*with the caveat that I haven't checked the laws in a few years:

It's legal to *buy* a still of no larger than 5L in capacity (I'm well
aware that larger stills are commonly available to buy, but they don't
seem to police it) but it is *not* legal to distill *any* quantity of
alcohol without the proper licenses/permits. For one thing, you're
meant to pay excise duty on any spirits that are produced in Aus and
to do that you require a licence.

Where fractional freezing fits into all this from a legal standpoint
is interesting, but I suspect the ATO would argue it is a form of
distillation, even though technically it isn't.

It seems you are right. It seems also that these laws are routinely
broken and ignored by Govt, since almost every brew shop I have ever
visited sells all manner of flavouring essences for the purpose of
producing reasonable imitations of various commercially available
spirits from home distilled raw spirit. Bit of a joke really.

My Campbelltown (Croation) Hillbilies got done in the 1980's when
large areas of Sydney stopped buying Johny Walker.
Federal police did raid them and put them out of business.
A Polish mate of mine bought their Scotch by the case $50 and no one
could tell the difference even came in JW bottles.

I have a female friend here who was done for the same thing (although
not faking brands like your example AFAIK). This was shortly before I
met her, but apparently her setup was pretty large, distilling 200L of
wash at a time. Federal police involved. Dobbed in by her ex husband,
apparently :)

Do you know why there is a dearth of dry sherry essences ?

Everything else, but not that for some reason.
