After months of horror stories and an entirely negative experience of
FTTP at work I approached the installation of FTTN at home with more
than a small degree of trepidation.

I bought a 4G pocket router and 10gigs worth of data so that we would
at least have email and some browsing capability and waited.

When I got home at lunchtime the phone no longer worked and the
internet was down - i took this to be the signal that the cut over to
FTTN had happened.

I installed my (not theirs) pre-configured modem and to my utter
amazement it connected up almost immediately.

A test torrent or two indicates that I have (at present) slightly less
real world performance than I had with the ADSL2+ but that isn't
surprising as the ADSL port had been opened up to "whatever the
bandwidth will bear" as part of fault resolution a long time ago.

I am getting: 17.5 Mbps download & 3.48 Mbps upload - www.speedtest.net

Still - better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick.

now lets see if it keeps working... Later on I'll connect TPG's modem
and see how that goes.

Still working.

If it continues to do so I will be content.
