You apparently have another - working - computer, so you can get/create the Windows 10 installation media: "Download Windows 10" <https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10> >s if I install from a disc image I will lose all > what has been done since the image was taken. thanks, What kind of "image of the drive" do you have? If it's one made by Macrium Reflect and you were smart enough to make (Macrium Reflect) 'Rescue media', then you could try the 'Fix Windows Boot Problems' function of the Rescue media.

I have Acronis True Image. However, I have now determined that the problem is that the none of the SATA ports are working. the hard drive is not being seen and not showing up in the bios. so I assume that can only mean the SATA ports are cactus, as the drive has power. I can boot from a drive on the IDE port only ( ASrock 980DE3/U3S3 ) http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/980de3u3s3/ so I guess the only option is a new motherboard? -- I plan on living forever. So far so good!

Ok it has power, but have you tried it in another PC to see whether the control electronics have thrown in the towl? Any chance that the BIOS settings have got scrambled due to some glitch or a failing backup battery and the SATA controller's simply disabled? -- __ __ #_ < |\| |< _#

All possibilities. It's also not unknown for a simple SATA cable to become faulty.
