Because it costs more to do it properly.

Nope. The problem isnt the antennas,
it’s the wifi hardware that drives them.

you mentioned voip. the voip box is connected via ethernet to the modem,
so the voip performance should be the same as it was with Telstra, right?

Not necessarily. When I changed from the Billion 7202G which
used to periodically see the Mitron MNFMV1 ata which provides
a voip service have to be reset, that problem went away.

I havent got around to researching that yet, havent even gotten
around to working out if my current Billion will be fine on the NBN.

Unless it does VDSL or you are getting FTTP it seems unlikely. I bought
a Billion 7800N a few years ago on the basis that it would be good for
the NBN but, since we got FTTN here, it is useless for that. Its a pity
as it is a better router than the Huawei crap that TPG supplied.

I didn’t mean that, I meant bridging the some steaming
turd that does VDSL2+ and keep using it that way.

Yeah, I've got a 7800NXL and it should be fine with a bridged steaming turd.

Remains to be seen what I will do that, like I said I havent researched it
at all yet.

Certainly wont be going with TPG, they are fucked IMO.

I'll have to stay with dodo for at least 9 months and then we will
see who is offering what at that time. Unlikely to use TPG tho.

I'd bridge the modem but I'd have to get a separate VOIP box and I can't
be bothered to at the moment. I have got over the DHCP problem by
assigning static addresses to everything.

I had problems with them at first, they hadn't updated the modem
firmware to match the latest NBN updates. It has been reasonably stable
since then, the price is reasonable ($40/mo less than Telstra was
charging for ADSL2)
