I have that Aldi plan myself. I'm a very infrequent user, so it's
perfect for me. However, John appears to also want an unlocked phone?

Wouldn't go past this one (very cheap 2nd hand)
http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=Nokia+Lumia+1020&_sop=15
 http://bit.ly/1Q6cCBF
I bought mine 2nd hand better than any phone I've ever tried
Windows phone excellent photos, personal diary
Just use WiFi for data stores everything on cloud easy no brains
required BIG screen.

There are MUCH better value phones than that one.

Like you said before Samsung does not have the quality in this case a
Iphone, which I agree (I own a Samsung Note)
The quality of the Nokia Lumia 1020 also surpasses that of the
Samsung.
The APP's that come with it along with MS free APPs are more than
adequate (I downloaded their "selfie APP, along with Australian birds)

There are so many apps that are not available on Windows Phone. You might
see an ad on TV for an app and you would be betting everytime that it's not
available.

Best just to stick to IPhone or Android. Only wierdos go for Windows Phone.

Most of Iphone Androids APP's are found to be Malware
http://bgr.com/2015/11/11/app-store-malware-ios-vs-android/
I try only to get genuine MS APP's
Samsung are malware in themselfs and one can't remove them
Downloaded one "free" next my Amaysin account zero'ed ($10)
Amaysim put it back and blocked them but don't touch Samsung devices
or anything all broken scams

Says nothing like that, Goebbels.

More fool you. There are fuck all of those and the OS is completely
useless at stopping apps from snooping on your data.

Because you were too stupid to work out what it was doing data wise
Goebbels.

Never happened to me Goebbels.

Fuck all of those on iOS Goebbels.

Yes, that is certainly true of the hardware.

The problem with the Nokia Lumia 1020 is with
the OS, it's a steaming turd in comparison.

Yes. But while the camera is superficially better
than the iphone on pixels alone, its much worse
with all the rest of the camera functionality.

Like hell they are with navigation apps,
and all sorts of other more exotic stuff.

A fart in the bath with all the apps Windows doesn't have.

You get the same result with the latest iphones,
and that isn't necessarily the best result, in all
situations anyway.

And that is the only area where its better than most,
the OS and apps are steaming turds compared with
iOS. Protection of your privacy in spades.

The only one that is worth using is google maps.

My iphone is fine indoors.

That is nothing like what is on iOS and androids.

Just did a very interesting side by side comparison
of the GPS navigation app that comes with another
Nokia Lumia that a mate of mine has with google
maps coming into Sydney from Goulburn. We were
running late trying to get to Central Station in time
to catch the train home leaving at 07:33. The Nokia
kept claiming that we would get there at 06:58 at
best, because I was tearing in at up to 150K on the
massive great divided highway coming in to Sydney.
Google Maps kept claiming that we would get to
Central at 07:23 which was much too late given
I had never actually been inside Central at all and
had absolutely no idea where to go etc and the fucking
map that translink provides was gobbledegook to me.
Absolutely classic example of a map which isn't bad if
you know the area well but useless when you don't.
Wasn't even at all clear from the web site if you had
to checkin like you do with the airlines or not. Turns
out that you don't, just jump on the train and they
check the ticket on the train, after its actually left
the station.

Anyway, google maps was saying that there would
be an extra 11 min delay due to traffic congestion
when still just coming into Sydney proper. The
Nokia never said anything about that at all.

Once we started running into the congestion,
the Nokia did start to increase the arrival time
but was always about 15 mins ahead of google
maps. Turned out that google maps was pretty
close but not clear how close because the battery
ran out in the last few Ks. Couldn't power the
phone from the car because the lightning
connector had some shit in it which makes
it hard to charge.

Hilarious saga in many ways. Those kids who
I had taught to drive who had headed back
to china with the new midget to show her
parents for a year or so were moving to
Sydney for a job there. Neither of them
were very confident about that sort of
long distance driving having done none
of that. So I was initially going to go as
a passenger to boost his confidence and
be there to drive if he decided it was too
much for him, particularly coming into
Sydney. Planned to drop me at the train
station and I'd get the train back.

But the bugger kept changing his mind
every day or so and once he decided that
he was going to do it that way, only a
couple of days before the job induction,
the only trains back left at 07:33 instead
of the 20:30 in the evening that is there
just on Friday and Sunday. So we left here
at midnight and drove thru the night, not
something he was too keen on even trying.
because he normally doesn't sleep till after
midnight. And his wife was even less keen.

Because we were so late, I pulled up at the
lights in Eddy Ave, told him that I was off,
him that had never driven in Sydney, ever.
He did fine, can't have been too bad a driving
instructor.

I didn't have fucking clue where to go and
managed to strike a complete fucking loony
who shouted at me with the first one I asked.

Missed the train by 10 mins, mainly because
I didn't have a clue where to go at Central.

With 20:20 hindsight we should have left
an hour earlier and would have pissed it in.
I had already added an hour to the google
maps estimate in case the others wanted
to stop for stuff but we only stopped for
petrol once.

Even google maps isn't great coming into
the city proper, no lane directions at all.
Fluked that one. The road signs are fucking
useless too, like the lane markers saying ED
ONLY and nothing else. Turned out that it
meant Eastern Distributor which is what I
wanted but that was a pure fluke.

Not great on the massive great divided
highway past Yass and Goulburn either,
it should mention that if you want petrol
etc you need to use the exit coming up.

Interesting whiling away the spare day till
the next day's train. The light rail system
works very well indeed. I thought it was
a bit of a socialist wank until I tried using
it. Certainly leaves driving around the
CBD etc for dead, let alone parking.

The train booking monkey said that he
never drives into the city at all anymore.
Corse he gets there for free everyday.

What's the story with the $2.50 day trip
tickets that you can use on almost anything ?
Little credit card sized piece of cardboard.
Do they change color by day ? I did use the
one I had used on monday on tuesday to
get back to central from Capitol Square.
She was the only one that looked at it
closely, they others never did. But she
didn't say anything about it after reading
what was printed on it.

The fucked thing about the $2.50 ticket is that
you have to pay $11 to get off the train at the
airports but they didn't say anything about that
when I asked the railway ape at central how I
used it to get to the airport. He just said platform
23 and pointed in the general direction of how
to get to platform 23.

The Opal system looks interesting. Pity you
can't just wave your phone at the posts tho.
