Is the Belong modem a good one? ta,

https://www.belong.com.au/nbn

High quality plug and play modem

When you sign up to Belong on the NBN plan you’ll receive a Sagemcom
F@ST 4315 Wi-Fi Modem. With:

Connection
The modem has 3x standard Ethernet LAN ports (10/100). It supports Wi-Fi
over the commonly used N-wireless standard and it’s also backwards
compatible for older devices. The supported wireless standards are
802.11 b/g/n.

Security
Supports several security protocols so that you can make sure your
network is protected from unauthorised access. WPA2 is enabled by
default, but WPA and WEP are also supported if required.

Entertainment
DLNA certified means that you can share digital content around the home
with other DLNA certified devices. You can also plug a USB storage
device in it to act as network storage.

Nope it isn't.

It's old technology , only has N wifi and only 3 x 10/100 Lan ports ,
most routers these days have 4 x gigabit ports and AC 1750 or AC1900 wifi .

It's one of those useless bog standard "moms and pops" routers that
nobody buys from a ISP

It doesn't even say if it can take the full 100/40 NBN speeds.

You would be a whlole lot better off getting a TP-Link Archer C9 AC1900
wifi for $179 or one of the more expensive routers like the ASUS
RT-AC68U AC1900 wif or the
Netgear R7000 NightHawk AC 1900 wifi.

The AC wifi will give you a quite a lot faster wifi and better signal
than the slower old N wifi .

If your other gear supports AC.

thanks for that. but wouldn't I then have to configure or set it up
somehow to work with Belong? how would I know what settings to use?
(pardon my ignorance on this matter)

Nope.

You could get real radical and ask if it doest work fine with the defaults.

No way, your ignorance is completely unpardonable, as always.

yeah, I guess being a NBN modem it's configured appropriately for the NBN

Sorry Rod you're wrong on this one. Belong use the MAC address of the
modem they supply you with to authenticate you on the NBN. All you would
need to make sure is that the unit you purchased was capable of entering
a manual MAC address for the WAN connection.

Apparently yours is too in this instance.
