Why would you bother with either when you can just use Windows Defender
(formerly Microsoft Security Essentials) which doesn't nag you to upgrade to
a paid version.

Because defender is very ordinary

AVAST, I think is better, that is why I use it.

However there are many others and this is the best site to check them out

from viewing those charts it's looking like Kaspersky is overall the
best AV product

Yes what I like about AVAST is it is not as resource hungry as Kapersky.

One ASPECT, as they say themselves.

The tests only compare how well the various avs
deal with various known infections, not with how
much it fucks over your system when checking, how
well it decides a particular web site is malicious,
how well it detects malware trying to do something
etc etc etc.

Because it doesn’t do as good a job of noticing what
some of the more malicious web sites and malware
gets up to etc.

Yes I do.
I often do a "online scan" to compare one checker with another.
No other picked up "Hadsruda!bit" after Windows defender did!
 http://bit.ly/1SaKCKV
I have a paid subscription for SpyHunter 4 as well which didn't pick
it up!

Completely useless when comparing how well
each decides that the website you are currently
using is trying to fuck over your system etc.

Try this one Rod
Norton Power Eraser is a free tool and doesn't require installation.
It just needs to be downloaded and run.

Sure, I got the same thing with one virus, but you can get the
reverse too, stuff that Defender doesn't notice and others do.

OK

The reversal of false positives is better than most.

This has happened more than once
The last rime Defender picked it up but was lousy a removing it
Spyhunter support sent me a "patch" fix that completely removed it.

It's also simple to run but only looks for Malware although it did not
detect "Hadsruda!bit" either.
False positives are always a possibility but for me Norton Power
Eraser never gave me any.

My opinion also.
Has detected malware twice now before SpyHunter has?
Also does much more like back-ups and anti-virus!

the consensus so far is that Avast is better. and it has more users than
AVG, if that is any indication of superiority. don't really know
anything about defender, except that it's by M$, and on that basis
alone, I am averse to it

Bullshit it is.

Bullshit it has.

It isn't even if it was true.

Hell of a lot more use MacAfee just because its
installed by default with so much shit people
download now, and it’s a steaming turd anyway.

Or about anything else at all, either.

More fool you. It does in fact work
quite well, but AVG Free is better.
