#47328 — Web pages loading

SubjectWeb pages loading
Message-ID<d351m1FlbcfU1@mid.individual.net>
web pages these days are so full of 'junk'- links, ads, etc., they can
take forever to load. not only is it very annoying and time consuming,
it's also counter productive, as ppl will leave sites rather than wait
for pages to load. here's an example. worth looking at the pics though
if you can be bothered waiting for the pages to load..

nope. my internet speed is faster than most of the affordable NBN
offerings for domestic consumers @ 36 mbps. the problem lies with the
sites producing the ads, etc., not with the page you're loading.

Bullshit. Even 100 mbps is very affordable.

Cant say I have ever had any real problem and I don’t run anything like 36
mbps.

I have 100Mbps and it took ages to load the second page. I have
Adblock Plus https://adblockplus.org/ so I didn't see the ads but it
was obvious that the slow speed was deliberately inserted. You are
supposed to waste your time looking at the ads as well as the
pictures. The site is intended to be slow and you proposed the correct
solution to the problem in your OP.

so as I said it's not the internet connection speed that is the problem.
it's all the junk that's put on the page.

I didn't know that was something that is or could be done. are you sure
it's something deliberate, or is the page still 'calling' to the servers
hosting the ads, and so slowing the pages loading time, even tho you're
not seeing the ads?

I believe so although I have not looked at the code. It is possible
using straight HTML but, anyway, the site relies on Javascript so they
can do what they like.

Nope, that's all it takes in IE 11.

Takes noticeably longer in Pale Moon 20.1 and doesn’t look anything
like what it does in IE 11, the smaller pictures are all in one column in
PM.

you're right. it's much faster in IE. used to be that FF was always
faster than IE. maybe it's time I ditched FF? however, FF now has this
cool extension called pocket.

maybe because I never use IE whereas I have heaps of plugins, addons,

I was at uni in 1993 when Mosaic browser arrived. The uni's internet link
was 34 Mbps for the entire campus. Webpages had a lot less fat in those days.

I was surprised yesterday when I found a card in the letterbox saying
that the NBN are about to start digging up streets around here and
installing their cables. It's a fairly new area with decent ADSL2+
(22Mbps or better).

Maybe now we can get some of the deals from TPG etc instead of being
tied to Telstra.

Paul went with TPG for his NBN and they fucked him around for something
like a month even just getting his phone service working with it. And the
steaming turd of a router they supply can't do anything like the 100Mb
service with its wifi.

I've got totally shit Internet speeds and these download times weren't too
bad but maybe that is what I'm used to.

BTW "Worse photo shop fails" were quite funny

Actually if you want a slow page from my pov the NBN when will you get NBN
is the really bad
