Depends on what you mean by a hard reset. 

If you hold that power button down until you get 
the popup and then confirm that you do want to 
power off completely, that is likely what you mean.

There are various ways of forcing an android to do a factory reset. 

You need to say what android you are talking 
about, doing that isn't universal with all androids.
