But yes, the whole idea is idiotic, but then it's just an extension of the automatic-updates_only mechanism. Totally brain-dead, especially considering that Windows is also used on tablets, hybrids, etc., which will often be using - very expensive - *mobile* [1] networks. [1] Yes, that can be worked around as well. The *point* is that the *default* settings/methods are totall b0rken and create more problems than they solve.
