Well, for me (for mail, don't use it for news) Thunderbird is anything
*but* "feature rich"!
For me it has *less* features than Outlook Express / Windows Mail, and
you can hardly call *those* "feature rich"!
When I had to switch from Windows Mail to Thunderbird (because Windows
8.1 doesn't have Windows Mail (and Windows *Live* Mail *is* indeed a
piece of crap), there was al kinds of missing basic functionality, like:
- Can not import from OE/WM. Needs an Add-on (ImportExportTools) and that
Add-on messes up your folder structure.
- A single Inbox is not a default nor a straightforward option. (Yes, it
is possible. No, it is *not* straightforward.)
- Can not monitor sending/receiving while is is happening.
- Can not set line-length for (plain) text format.
- Can not import Windows Contacts to Thunderbird Address Book (without
knowing the *exact* internal formats of both).
- Location of Message Storage is such that the OS (Windows 8.1/10) does
*not* backup those folders.
- Can not (easily) move the location of these folders.
- Can not reply to mail in a sane (plain) text format. (Only does "On
19/05/2015 23:04, Somebody wrote:", and quotes in UNIX/Usenet style
('^> '), which is very uncommon in this and last century's *mail).
Need yet another - very hard to find - Extension ('Change quote and
reply format').
- Does not use First and Last names from the Address Book. The Address
Book needs to have a 'Display Name' to get a sensible 'To:' header.
- Some stuff I (luckily) forgot.
Yes, as indicated, some of this stuff can be fixed with a lot of
research. But this basic stuff should be standard functionality or at
least not hard to find.
And to add insult to injury, most the time, one needs to use *Google*
to find a solution on some Mozilla(-related) site, because also the
Mozilla sites are anything *but* user-friendly.
So "Thunderbird by Mozilla is an excellent feature rich application"?
I don't THINK so!
