I'm often accused of putting too much emphasis on DE 'efficiency' in the
form of ram used live to the desktop, but we do 'talk about'
lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight DEs, so I'm 'justified'.

I'm a big proponent of how efficient Plasma KDE is in that regard, often
using less ram than XFCE and LXQt.  A good example is KDE Neon which
uses in the low 400s, ie less than most xfce & lxqt based distro/s.

But, a good number of KDEs use MORE than that; so I've looked for some
'wise' methods to try to reduce the kde ram used w/o hurting anything.

I've discovered getting rid of akonadi.

akonadictl stop

That is good for about 50 meg or so and my understanding is that I'm not
hurting anything of which I am aware.

Unfortunately a useful kde resource was last updated in 2011.

We are now in Plasma 5.2x, not SC Software Compilation anything.

I did find a discussion which is fresh called 'Akonadi is making me lose
my will to live.' at Reddit, which is somewhat useful.

eg:
