I still haven't been able to get mkusb to work properly on current LM or 
LMDE which it used to for previous versions.

I'm making progress on the Ventoy .json business; I'm impressed by how 
much Ventoy is able to do 'making things' using a combination of the 
command line and a browser GUI interface using various bash script 
files.  It helps make the Ventoy disk; it helps make the persistence 
plugin .json; it helps make a .dat file for the persistence.  But, I 
still don't have things just right altogether yet, but it is coming 
together.

I've discovered another 'good' USB persistence maker in the form of 
Sparky's.
