It's probably a function of either your greeter or your chosen panel.
On the LXDE panel it is on the logout icon.  Clicking it gets a menu
with several options.  Switch user is one.  That said, I do use  the
LXDM login manager, too. Other horses probably run different courses.

Naturally, it doesn't really switch users, but starts an new display
for the new user and Ctrl-Alt-Function-number(7-12 for Debian)> get one
back to the other user(s).
