My old elementary school has 14:1 and my old high school has 17:1 based on 
current data. I keep trying to visualize the classroom in elementary school 
and can't do it.  I know there was more than 14 students in a room.  That 
would be only 4 desks x 4 desks. As a WAG we had something like 4 wide and 7 
deep - from the teachers vantage point.

My elementary school is now 45% white, when I was there it was 100% white. 
77% of the students qualify for free or reduced price lunches.  Our parents 
fed us. I would bet money that every kid in class knew who his daddy was and 
most saw him regularly. Nowadays it takes a village.
