I liked it when they would go meta and talk about it on the show.

Not always.  I saw an interview where one of the actors on House was 
saying he prefers it when he gets fewer lines/less screen time since 
it's less work for him and he gets paid the same.

I was at a convention where Robert Picardo was discussing his character 
on Voyager and how he would actively campaign for storylines.  That was 
contrasted by Robert Beltran (not sure if it was the same convention or 
not) who acknowledged other actors would talk to the writers about their 
characters but he never did.  IMO, it *really* showed on the screen.

I think around the first season I read an interview with Matthew 
Morrison where he made a point to say the actors are all only a few 
years younger than himself so he would *not* be trying to give them any 
fatherly advice.
