Which differs from longstanding behavior of newsreaders. Newsreaders
have long marked crossposts as read. Perhaps this happened with some
limitations, such as only marking crossposts to subscribed newsgroups
as read.

Perhaps Thunderbird derivative Betterbird differs in this behavior?
