As others have said, (almost) anyone can put anything in the From: field of an email; doesn't mean they have any ownership of what they are (mis)using. 2. Your annual fee keeps the domain registered. It may be to registered to you, or it may be to the company who handles your registration and hosting; check with the "paperwork" you originally followed when "registering" the domain (you may also be able to check with the registrar who actually owns the domain). Most such companies these days play ball and register it in your name. While you keep paying them the fees (which will comprise an annual registration fee - I think it's less than $10 - which they pass on to you from the registrar, which might be ICANN, plus a larger component for the hosting [of your webspace] and email handling), it makes little difference; the only difference comes should you decide to change hosting provider - if they registered it to themselves in the first place rather than you (and have maintained that distinction at each annual renewal), then they could hold it to ransom. I've not heard reports of this happening lately (and it is generally frowned upon), but then I don't suppose it gets much coverage unless it's a Big Name, such as a company one. -- J. P. Gilliver.
