"Just a browser" all good. I've been doing mail & news in Emacs
forever, even when my home computer was an Osborne I -- remote Unix
accounts w/ the Osborne as an Emacs-capable terminal.

And early on I didn't want a browser that was even capable of messing
with email, some notion that a browser that could mess with mail was a
security risk.

Seamonkey allegedly can do mail but I've never explored/tried it.
Very rarely I do webmail with my provider when away from home on wifi
of uncertain security.

Never even tried Communicator. Netscape Navigator wouldn't run on
Slackware newer that 11, apparently (educated guess) because the
programmers declared errno manually, a fail w/ newer C libs. Stuck
with an aging kernel, obsolete crypto and other geriatric bits,
finally gave up and was real happy to find Seamonkey with a familiar
interface instead of the learn-everything-over-again interface of FF.
