I'm looking at this on Eternal September an it shows Manu's message as a
direct reply to my post - the start of this thread. ES does not show any
post for Manu so I assume that there are other news servers involved and
other messages missing. Maybe someone can reconstruct what has happened
via header examination.

GG's just acting more childish than usual. The plain text part is
rubbish. It's all in the html part:

It WAS a direct reply to your post. "Manu" is the HTML troll,
using a different alias, and in the HTML portion of his post he
answered your question and insulted you in the process.

Perhaps a stray remnant of a Base64 message?

That was an interesting thought...
I've now run the posting through a Base64 extractor which reports.
"This file does not appear to contain any base64 data."
Having also looked at the raw data in an advanced text editor, the
thing/table/whatever (above) appears within the data exactly as it
presents in the viewed posting.
The only thing of note within is a URL, https://i.imgur.com/ssZlgNm.png
which displays the real purpose of the posting...
The window display you get from "Help-Trouble shooting information"
hilighting the path to the profile.
So still no idea what the above thing is... ;-)

Good Guy stated that Ray had stopped him posting in Eternal September. As Manu Raju's post also did not appear in E-S, it could well be they are the same person (which Ray could perhaps pick up from the headers) as the post did appear in a different news server. -- Jeff

He lied. Ray isn't allowing HTML alternate part attachments nor any HTML marked up text in plain text newsgroups. He can be every bit as idiotic in plain text with no attachment and no HTML markup. He knows exactly what Ray filters. Ray did not stop him. He chose not to post in plain text. He made that decision for himself. It wasn't made for him by Ray.

I could see in www.eternal-september.org "Terms of use" that binaries aren't allowed in text-only groups, but I couldn't see anything about disallowing HTML (or is that the "etc" in the restrictions?). There was a reply post by Manu Raju with the subject "Re: Comparing the Network Behavior of Popular Browsers on First-Run" in this NG at 19:56 on 09/04/2021. It was made in plain text. -- Jeff

Because users should control what they want to see and what not. Filters are created for that purpose. Who is this guy called Good Guy? I don't see any of his posts here but perhaps it is because I filtered somebody by that name last year when he was attacking me and calling me all sorts of names. this is ridiculous you are giving him publicity to that miscreant. Just do something else and stop discussing him/her here. He has nothing useful to contribute here or on Linux newsgroups. On 12/04/2021 22:28, Adam H. HTML markup isn't plain text. It's not hard to grasp that HTML isn't plain text and doesn't belong in a newsgroup intended for plain text discussion. >Who is this guy called Good Guy? What has any of this have to do with a Firefox profile? Isn't there some policy that a subject should be changed if the topic changes, cross-posted to the correct group for the new topic with Followup-To set to that group? On 4/12/21 5:28 PM, Adam H. Well, that would be pretty damn rude to attempt to inflict such a discussion upon the readers of another newsgroup, given that the regulars of this newsgroup were the one discussing the troll's antics. >On 4/12/21 5:28 PM, Adam H.
