Most Linux distros aren't sold so are not > part of the "market" > By the way that is just two examples. > Nice sound bite. Would be much more persuasive if the article had stated how many units. 42% of how many units. And how does that compare to the population of China? These articles find some niche and extrapolate that to desktop linux success. Many of the "successes" have been in cases where some organization created an appliance based on linux and forced the organization to comply. That's an excellent application for linux. Gurus install/configure/maintain the appliance optimized for the work of the user. That's great. Linux deserves to used on the desktop. If it saves my tax dollars so the government can spend it on other crap I don't need, I'm all for it. But, that's a far cry from joe average making the decision to use linux as his only computing platform on his home desktop. Many are not willing to risk leaping into that deep/dark chasm that is the linux desktop experience. Once you get past surfing the web, the "choices" are mind boggling. A little organization on the part of developers could make a huge change in that overnight. They just don't want to. And that's sad.

Yes, isn't it something how on one hand they say Linux only has 1.5% of the market, and on the other hand they fight tooth and nail against Linux? All those billions in profits Crapple and M$ makes aren't enough for their shills? They won't be happy unless those are the only two choices? And then a certain thing that will remain nameless can tell us that's actually abundant choice.

No fighting involved, at least for me. Linux desktop is technically fine, it just has a structure behind it that will keep it on the smallest of fringes. None of that structure is about the technology, just mindsets and idiocy when it comes to business. All those billions in profits Crapple and M$ makes aren't > enough for their shills? The problems for linux garnering acceptance as a commercial/consumer desktop OS have so little to do with the tech that it isn't a problem at all. BUT, the problems with linux on the desktop from a marketing/sales perspective are huge. You are just too damned dumb about how sales/ marketing/business works that you cannot see the issues. And that show why the geeks are kept away from marketing/sales. Totally out of their realm and no expertise in it at all. >> The real (and rather obvious) reasons why Micro$oft continues to >> dominate the desktop, which you disregard as "excuses", have been >> explained to you countless times. >> And all have been just bullshit! Repeating them doesn't make it true. Apple has found a market, Google has found a market. And those markets are competing with MS on the desktop. While MS still has the bulk of the market, both Google and Apple know there are profitable smaller niches they can and are filling. Only linux on the desktop providers cannot seem to figger out how to get some of that too. And that is because they are too busy listening to the geek 'community' and ignoring the business side of things. >> Time after time, post after post, you demonstrate that you are a >> stupid, lying troll, "Lloyd". >> No, that would be you with your skewed view of things. But it is understandable with your very confused state of mind. I mean, what else can it be but confused with your blathering about how great linux is and posting about it with Windows. -- Lloyd

Bitching about evil M$ won't get desktop linux anywhere. The linux "team(s)" need to use the same techniques proven by M$ if they want to invade the desktop market beyond the gurus and hobbyists. Since years. And you can stuff your "fleet of 100 random distros". It is a bullshit argument, since at most around 10 distros are used for deneral desktop usage. The other distros are "special purpose" or distros for linux specialists
