Right, and the evidence is the huge 1.5% desktop linux marketshare that

That is probably true. Linus hasn't shown any real marketing, packaging

loonies here.

You are too. Generally consistently wrong and obnoxious, but consistent.

Another mental-midget who thinks that fewer choices will make Linux
appeal to more people. Another ignorant wannabe dictator who thinks
that committees and five-year plans can beat the free market.

And an even smaller mental-midget that doesn't understand how sales and
marketing works. And 'free market' doesn't mean 'free' in any sense you
think you understand. Face it, you have no business acumen whatsoever and
even less marketing/sales skills.

The tech doesn't sell the product!

A "free" market does not mean any product you put out, no matter how good or
bad, or how appealing or not, will do as well as others.

Correct, you are so much below almost everyone's league that it is

You're not paying attention. Too much effort on denigration and not
enough on making linux easier for the newbie.

I never advocated fewer choices.
I advocate ORGANIZED CHOICE with a common starting point
and STRUCTURED enhancements via GUI, click here to install this,
and a COMMON repository that's always evaluated and self-consistent.
PLUS full support for the current chaos for those who think they are gurus.
Nobody has to give up ANYTHING.
Just add an option to the install menu, "Make it as hard as possible"
and the gurus will be unaffected.

I know. You think that you know better than everyone else. If only
you were dictator, and could allocate resources, the world would be
better-off. You would eliminate "wasteful" and "redundant" work on
competing ideas on how to do things best. You would disallow the
offering of anything but one STANDARD Linux, for the good of us all.

Maybe you should consider starting your own communist "utopia"
somewhere, comrad.

Time after time, post after post, you demonstrate that you are happy with
the hobbyist/developer open and free model for desktop linux. And I have
no problem with that. It gathers a solid 1.5% of the market and is
fringe enough to fill that tiniest of tech niches.

But then don't complain when linux desktop goes nowhere in the commercial/
consumer world. That's because the things you believe important about
linux desktop are exactly what prevents that from ever changing.

Linux has taken over some of the commercial world and is growing rapidly
in the rest.
As different gov'ts and businesses switch to Linux then the consumer
world will grow.

Let's correct that a bit. It has been taken in by some companies for
specific purposes but very few have switched to linux on the desktop in
total.

That's been the story for 20+ years now. No indication that it is more
than a pipe dream.

The story is nice, another 'this is the year of linux' that appear every
year for almost 20 years now. When the dust settles this time next year,
there will be another story similar to it.

But the 1.5% of marketshare will remain the same.

Nobody said anything about a year. Just showing that Linux is growing in
large chunks.
Who care about market share. Most Linux distros aren't sold so are not
part of the "market"
By the way that is just two examples.

Except for the fact that it isn't growing by even small chunks, you are
absolutely correct. And I'd say give it 5 years and it might just make
1.55% at the rate it is growing now.

When it grows at the rate of 20-25000 at one time I would say that is
large chunks.
